A garden in the mountains

When i was growing up, i used to spend my summer with my grandparents, at their little part of the earth. It’s a tiny village, lost in the Taygetos mountains of southern Greece. It has about 30 inhabitants and it lies snugly on a mountain slope about thirty minutes form the main road connecting Kalamata (land of the olives) and Sparta (land of warriors). My childhood summers were spent in my grandma’s garden, perched on the terrassed slope.

The place is in the middle of nowhere – when you sit outside in the evenings you can hear the brooks rolling down the surrounding mountains and see the starriest sky you’ve ever seen. There is nothing to do except listen and look.

It’s my favourite place in the whole wide world.

Tell us what you think!
